Escatawpa Blueway with paddler, Mississippi paddlingLet’s shake the COVID blues and get on the water for some paddling fun. Here’s the plan. We will meet at Presley’s Outing at 1:00 on Saturday, October 3. The route will be down river about a mile to Franklin Creek. We will then spend the rest of the trip exploring Franklin Creek. The total distance will be about 5 miles, and there are several good stopping points for a short break. Franklin Creek is one of the most unique creeks in Jackson County. About half of our trip will look like we’re in a tunnel of trees. Shady and cool.

For those of you who have not been to Presley’s, it’s a true hidden treasure in Jackson County for kayakers. It has the perfect sand beach launch area, and you can head out in three different directions, all of which are scenic paddling venues. Plus, there’s a great BBQ restaurant on site (Boathouse Restaurant). NOTE: Presley’s Outing will waive their entry fee for our paddlers. Let them know at the entrance that you are there for the paddle.

Our paddle should end around 5:00 and for those that are hungry, we plan to have dinner at the restaurant (outside on picnic tables for social distancing). There is a public bathhouse with showers and changing rooms onsite if you would like to clean up before dinner. The dinner will be a great time to recap the trip and continue meeting the other paddlers.

This will be a leisurely cruise in protected waters. The trip distance may sound like a bit much for first time paddlers, but the trip will be mostly downstream and at a sightseeing pace. Also there will be an early pull out point if a paddler does not want to go the entire length. For those that would like to learn kayaking basics and general safety procedures, a short class will be conducted prior to the departure. Please arrive at 12:00 to participate in this complimentary class. We will start launching at 1:00.

Regarding social distancing, we ask that you abide by the proper social distancing guidelines. Keep in mind that even if your risk tolerance is low, those around you may be in a higher risk category, so we should all be more conservative in our actions. Always stay 6′ from your fellow paddlers. This is easy while paddling, but needs to be especially considered during launch and retrieval. Please do not attend if you are not feeling well, no matter the cause. Your temperature will be checked at the entrance to Presley’s Outing

Come out and join us for some of the best paddling in south Mississippi.
